Many of the evacuees were forced to leave their fur babies home. Pets are not allowed in evacuation centres, nor can they be transported on evacuation buses or via air. Leaving pets behind compounds the stress placed on families.
Many communities have support in place that feed and care for the animals left behind. They are in dire need of food and supplies for the animals.
Northern Animal Rescue (NAR) Humane Society in La Ronge, SK is looking for donations of pet supplies and food. NAR provides rescue services to animals within the Tri-Community, which includes La Ronge, Air Ronge and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. NAR was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2009. They are a registered charity.
NAR has been working around the clock to support displaced animals during this difficult time. Not only are they feeding and watering displaced animals, but they are also working to transport them out of the community and into temporary foster homes. Many of the cats have been placed though SOS Prairie Rescue. SOS is looking for donations to help care for the pets.
