October is Cyber Security Awareness Month
Cyber security is always a priority. Cyber Security Awareness Month provides a valuable opportunity to explore our commitment to safeguarding our members’ and employers’ data. In addition, this is a great opportunity for our membership to learn more about fraud prevention and online safety skills, and how good cyber practices support your financial health.
CSS is committed to protecting your data
At CSS Pension Plan, the security of our members' and employers' data is paramount. In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, we recognize the importance of being proactive and adaptive when it comes to cyber security.
Here’s a closer look at the steps we take to protect our data and ensure your information remains secure.
-
Comprehensive employee training
Cyber threats are constantly evolving, and so are we. At CSS, we have developed an in-depth, ongoing training program for employees at all levels. This training ensures that our team stays ahead of emerging threats and maintains an acute awareness of best practices in data protection.
-
Robust policies and procedures
To safeguard electronic data, we have implemented multiple layers of security through well-defined policies and procedures. These are reviewed regularly by both internal staff and external cyber experts to ensure they are up to date with the latest security protocols and technological advancements. By consistently evaluating our processes, we are able to adapt swiftly to any changes in the cyber threat landscape.
-
Vigilance in communication
We encourage our staff to take a proactive stance by carefully scrutinizing email communications, documents and links they encounter. This added level of diligence helps detect potential threats before they can cause harm, reinforcing a culture of cyber vigilance throughout the organization.
-
Skilled technology team
Our technology team consists of highly knowledgeable staff, management and external experts who can respond quickly and efficiently to potential cyber incidents. Their expertise ensures that, in the event of a threat, we can act decisively to minimize any impact and restore normal operations.
-
Cyber policies
CSS also has a robust cyber security policy in place. In the event of a cyber event, such a policy may help CSS and our membership navigate the event, leveraging cyber security experts and professionals. Additionally, as a final layer of protection, we have cyber insurance in place to safeguard CSS from any losses incurred due to a cyber incident.
At CSS, we take every measure to stay one step ahead of cyber threats, ensuring the safety and security of our members' and employers' data. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards in cyber security so you can feel confident that your information is well protected.
Cyber security matters to your financial health
Many parts of your everyday life take place online. There are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your devices. The Government of Canada has created a resource to help – Get Cyber Safe.
1. Use strong password
Always create unique passwords for your online accounts, mixing letters, numbers and special characters. Using unique and complex passphrases and passwords of at least 12 characters for every account and device is one of the best ways to keep your personal information safe. Do not share your passwords with others.
2. Keep your devices secure
Ensure that your computer, smartphone and tablet are up to date with the latest security patches and antivirus software. This helps prevent malware from accessing your information.
3. Be wary of phishing scams
Cybercriminals often use face emails, texts or websites to trick you into sharing personal information. Always verify the source before clicking on any links or providing sensitive information.
The digital age offers amazing convenience, but it also comes with risks. Whether it’s phishing emails, identity theft or malware, cyber threats are constantly evolving. That’s why it’s crucial to be resourceful and stay informed about the latest cyber security tools.
