About the role
We seek a highly motivated, collaborative, strategic thinking finance and investment professional to join our team as an Investment Analyst. The successful candidate will report to the Director, Investments and Financial Management and play a key role in the management of the Society’s pension plan investment mandates.
The Investment Analyst is a professional dedicated to remaining current on investment trends, new developments, and issues of interest and relevance to the management of institutional investment portfolios. Maintaining membership and participation in industry associations is required.

You will be a forward-thinking individual with solid foundational finance and investment management skills, you are curious, a lifelong learner, a proponent of the co-operative business model, and have a keen interest in growing your finance and investment expertise.

Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of the daily valuation process for the Society’s custom investment funds;
- Overall responsibility for the management of the Society’s fund unitization process;
- Planning for short-term and long-term liquidity needs;
- Rebalancing of the Plan’s portfolios where required;
- Developing, implementing and using tools for managing and analyzing investment portfolios;
- Assisting in the preparation of operating and investment budgets;
- Assisting in the selection, monitoring, and, where necessary, the termination of external fund managers;
- Monitoring will include performance analysis and compliance to the Society’s Statement of Investment Policies and Goals (SIPG);
- Participating in portfolio studies, portfolio modeling, and the development of investment strategies;
- Interaction with the Society’s external consultants, custodian and external fund managers to execute trades, manage liquidity and other risks; and
- Drafting and presenting reports to the Director, Investments and Financial Management and the Society’s Members, Delegates, and Board of Directors.
Qualifications, skills and abilities
You'll have:
- An undergraduate or advanced degree in finance, statistics, math or other related disciplines;
- Up to five (5) years of relevant experience in the investment management, pension, benefit, and/or financial services sectors;
- Keen curiosity and interest in understanding investment risk, performance and overall effective institutional investment management practices in both private and public markets;
- A professional designation (or working toward one) such as CFA;
- A strong ability to analyze financial data using tools like Excel and to generate insightful reports;
- Experience working for a co-operative organization;
- The ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement; and
- The ability to work independently as well as with all levels of the organization and external service providers.
A combination of equivalent education, training and experience may be considered.
